Wow, guys, the inaugural KWFC Fantasy Premier League (FPL) was awesome, which I'm sure has surpassed any expectations we might have at the start of the season.
This is a recap of our FPL 20/21 season with some stats and highlights. Hope you enjoy reading this.
Down to the Wire
The season was filled with nothing but excitement and drama.
As this was the first time most of us played FPL, some got off to a slow start (in terms of points-scoring), while some went straight into the fifth gear. JiSharks FC went trigger happy by using his Triple Captain on Aubameyang on the first gameweek (GW), only to find out that it can be used once. Lucky for him, Auba scored once.
MrMauriceFC and POYIPOLOMIIII!!! were off to a flying start by registering the first triple-digit finish in GW 2. Meanwhile, Pasir Salak and Prince g were slightly sluggish as they ended September 2020 bottom in the league.
By GW 7, Chok9U and POYIPOLOMIIII!!! each had three T2 finishes - earning Mai (Lord Horrace) the "current FPL champ" title. VARginas FC had his "cucaracha" days which outlasted the rest of us for eight GWs only to get his first B2 finish in GW 9.
Speaking of last, No Kane No Gain was off to the slowest start of the lot with the most B2 finishes by GW 10. Much to his relief, his first T2 finish came only in GW 11. Little did we know, it was only the start of his meteoric rise.
By GW 25, Chok9U, Pasir Salak and MrMauriceFC were chalking up T2 finishes and standing high up in the points ladder. While on the opposite end, DizzyMissLizzy certainly lived up to its name with a dizzying ten B2 finishes and the least T2 finishes, closely followed by POYIPOLOMIIII!!! with a string of B2 finishes.
It was quite evident that Chok9U was the outright ladder leader with the most T2 finishes, where the rest of us were resigned to fighting for the second position.
But it was not to be as the final ten GWs of the season were off the charts. Dark horses, No Kane No Gain and Prince g, racked up five T2 finishes each and were poised to finish the season top of the league, barring any slip-ups from Chok9U and MrMauriceFC. JiSharks FC was also lurking around the edges with a string of consistent results only to falter towards the end.
It was down to the wire up in the final GW of the season where MrMauriceFC (then top) felt the heat from No Kane No Gain and Prince g with less than 10 points separating the top 2. Meanwhile, there was also strong competition from the bottom feeders POYIPOLOMIIII!!!, DizzyMissLizzy and VARginas FC with a desire to not finish in the relegation zone.
Throughout the 90 minutes of the final game, the ladder was changing by the minutes. Strong performances by JiSharks FC and No Kane No Gain's players meant that by the 80th minute, MrMauriceFC has conceded the top spot to either of them. Meanwhile, POYIPOLOMIIII!!! had a strong showing thanks to his secret weapon, "bench boost".
In the end, there was no stopping No Kane No Gain from claiming the top spot with 2303 points, followed by JiSharks FC, who was nine points adrift in second place. Chok9U rebounded in the final week to remain ahead of MrMauriceFC, while Prince g's efforts ended in vain by finishing fifth. POYIPOLOMIIII!!!'s hattrick of T2 finishes in the final GWs meant that he leapfrog both DizzyMissLizzy and VARginas FC to finish in the mid-table.

More Stats Highlights - Individual and Workouts
Throughout the season, there has been nothing short of interesting workouts. Here, we revisit some of them while highlighting some interesting stats. 😉
But first, let me take a selfie. |
Joint top most three digits point finish (x4). Joint top most T2 finish (x11).
Famously said, "no Kane, no gain" which was evident in his first ten GWs.
Made an astonishing 60 transfers - most transfers made in our league. This means he has -4 or -8 in almost every GW. However, this strategy and gamble paid off handsomely for our KWFC captain.
Ballerina ke? |
JiSharks FC
Consistent throughout the season with the least B2 finishes (x6). A string of bad decisions mid-season and towards the end of the season meant that finishing top was difficult.
The sit-up workout killed him. He was in pain for at least five days after the workout.
Putehhh |
Joint top most T2 finish (x11)
Hard to juggle woman/dogs/balls at the same time la.. |
Joint top most three digits point finish (x4). Most points scored in one GW - 127 points.
Second least B2 finish (x7).
Almost claimed the top spot only to fall in the final two GWs.
Guy with the cutest workout shorts |
After overcoming his own heaty patches aka COVID19, Mr Results! late peak almost saw him finishing top.
Highly questionable workout routines, but they work for him. So who's to say it's weird.
Kneepad practice? |
All hail "Lord Horrace"! While he peaked early in the season, he fell off the pecking order mid-season onwards due to suspected heatiness.
However, a strong desire of not wanting to finish bottom inspired a late resurgence with a hattrick of T2 finishes and no B2 finish in the last ten GWs. All hail "Lord Horrace"!
Oh a girl is coming, better workout now. |
Unfortunate to claim the most B2 finish (x11) and the least T2 finish (x4).
Poor decisions to make unnecessary extra transfers cost dearly and contributed to a streak of B2 finishes.
However, the punishment workouts came good as he completed a 10km run below 1 hour, his PB. It's definitely the workouts that made him stronger and faster.
The most cheng face while exercising |
A relatively strong start to the season and was quite consistent throughout.
A couple of 'Oh I forgot to set my team' incidents cost him dearly. Unfortunate to finish one point behind DizzyMissLizzy in overall points scored.
Then again, there's really not much difference between the two old vege bros.
I must plan my revenge. Jifai you watch out. |
Joint top most T2 finish (x11). Strong and consistent results throughout the season for Pasir Salak.
Unfortunate to drop out of the race at the end of the season because family comes first (respect).
Funnily, he managed to finish T2 in some GWs despite not setting his team. Luck or pure genius? It's definitely the latter.
Special shoutout to Kev. Although he did not join us, he did join in tagging on some of us and our workouts. Love you, Kev.
More than a Football Team
FPL has somewhat brought us back closer with one another. As we grew older, we all have our own priorities in life. Many of us also live in other countries, which may have contributed to us not being as close as before.
How did it make us closer?
For the last 38 GWs, FPL has altered many of our daily routines. Before GW deadlines, we would privately message each other to ask for tips and advice, etc. After each GW, there were banters that ensued.
For some (mainly the United fans), we were awake at odd hours to watch United matches - hoping that Bruno will do his magic and earn us thousands of points.
Oh FPL. Onto the next season.
